"The International Federation of PGA Tours feels strongly there is no place for any form of racism in ours or any other sport. We consider the remarks of Steve Williams, as reported, entirely unacceptable in whatever context. We are aware that he has apologized fully and we trust we will not hear such remarks ever again. Based on this, we consider the matter closed, and we will have no further comment."Adam Scott was asked if Williams would stay on his bag following the comments and Scott's reply was, "absolutely." Charles Schwab Cup Championship Tom Lehman was the points leader for the Champions Tour's Charles Schwab Cup since the 2nd week of the season. A tie for 18th was barely enough for Lehman to win the cup, as Marc Calcavecchia came up just short of the needed tie for 2nd or higher to claim the season long prize. Surging Jay Don Blake won the tournament.
PGA Results: HSBC Champions
HSBC Champions
I'd mentioned former world #1 Martin Kaymer as one of the players to watch last week in the HSBC preview. But coming into Sunday's final round of the World Golf Championships HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China, Kaymer was not really on the radar. Starting with a hole out from a greenside buner on the 7th hole Sunday, Kaymer would catch fire. That birdie would be the first of NINE birdies in the final 12 holes. Those nine birdies would add up to a final round 63 (an HSBC record) and would vault Kaymer from a five shot deficit to the winner's circle and a three shot cushion.
In his dry German personality Kaymer commented, "I didn't miss a lot of golf shots." Um, yeah.
Williams's Racial Comments Cause Stir
The International Federation of PGA Tours issued a statement regarding Tiger Woods's former caddie Steve Williams and his "shove it right up his black *ss" comments, which lit up golf news outlets and the social networks.
