The last couple of weeks has been very emotional for Jason Day. Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines took the lives of eight of Day’s family members. Day nearly withdrew from the event.
Fueled by the emotion of such a loss, Day played some inspired golf, taking home the champions trophy and the $1.2 million first place check.
"It would have been the easiest thing for me to just go ahead and pull out of the tournament with what has been going on over the last week," he added. "But I really wanted to come down here and play."
The event also had a team component. Day and his partner Adam Scott took home the first prize there as well, both pocketing $600,000.
$1.8 million for an “off season” event. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Day’s last victory came at the 2010 HP Byron Nelson Championship

Speaking of Adam Scott… In other Tour news, Adam Scott’s caddie Steve Williams (formerly the caddie of Tiger Woods), announced that 2014 would be his last “full-time” season and will be moving to part time starting in 2015.
