PGA Tour
The PGA Tour was in Las Vegas this past week for the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The host venue, TPC Summerlin.
Play this week was very entertaining on many levels. Jason Day is coming back. He had a fantastic tournament this week, putting a scare in the leaders with a ton of birdies in the final round to post -18.
John Daly posted a 63 in his 2nd round, his lowest score in years on Tour. He was right in the mix, but a 3rd round 86 derailed his hopes. Final round: 77. Daly is fighting to crack the Tour's top 125 in earnings and earn his card for 2013.
Ryan Moore and Brendan de Jonge were tied for the lead coming into the final round. They were fighting for the lead, neck and neck until a birdie on the 16th hole put Moore in the driver's seat. The Las Vegan made par on the final two holes to hold onto a one shot lead (-24) and record his 2nd victory on the PGA Tour.
"The last couple of days were tough. I was shot for shot with Brendon, and he was playing some great golf. I was able to make a birdie down the stretch when it mattered to hold him off at the end." ~Ryan Moore
Champions Tour
The seniors were in Cary, North Carolina this past week for the SAS Championship.
Utahn Jay Don Blake has had a fantastic 2012 season. He was knocking on the door of another victory this week when he ran into some high octane German engineering. Bernhard Langer kicked it into high gear in the final round, carding an amazing 63 which included a front nine 30.
Langer leapfrogged Blake, who needed to make a birdie on his final hole to force a playoff. Perhaps forcing it a bit, Blake's tee shot hit a tree and he ended up making a bogey, giving Langer a two shot win.
"I knew I had to go deeper and lower to make up some ground. And thank goodness it was 9 under because Jay Don came very close to tie me." ~Bernhard Langer
With the win Langer moves into 1st place in Charles Schwab Cup points past last week's leader Tom Lehman.
