Golf Tips: Saving Time
Golf takes too long as it is. Let's think of a few ways we can play a little faster and save some time. The less time it takes, the more we can golf or have time to get back to work, hehe.
Lost Ball
The USGA suggests that if you believe your ball may be lost or out of bounds, play a provisional ball. Should you not find your original ball, the provisional ball becomes the ball in play. This saves time because you don't end up going to search for the first ball, then going back to where you hit it from if it was indeed lost.
Bring Clubs
When searching for a ball in the rough, bring the clubs you might use with you, rather than finding your ball and then having to go back to your golf bag to get them. This saves a lot of time.
Ready
We covered this before but it is worth discussing, forever. Be ready to play when it is your turn. While other players are playing and while you are approaching your next shot, figure out what you're going to do and what club you're going to hit. When it is your turn, go for it.
Ready Golf
"Ready Golf" is when players hit shots as soon as they are ready, rather than waiting for the player farthest out to play. Play ready golf whenever you can!
Move On
When you and/or your group have finished putting out on a green, move to the next tee immediately to allow the group behind to hit their approaches. Reserve the time at the next tee box to write down scores and discuss what just happened. Don't stay on or near the green to record scores and/or discuss the hole just finished!
Know The Rules
Standing around discussing what to do in a confusing situation takes time. Knowing the rules better can reduce this confusion and decrease time spent considering the options. If not sure what to do in a situation, play two balls and check the rules or with the committee at the end of the round.
Teach/Practice On The Practice Range
The practice range is where you practice or teach. It is not good etiquette and takes more time to teach and practice on the course.
Play The Right Tee Box
If you are a 16 handicap, don't play a course with a 74.5 rating and 143 slope. It is going to destroy you and your round will take forever. Playing from the proper tees will speed up your round and allow you to shoot better scores!
