PGA Results: 2011 Transitions Championship
The Transitions Championship at Innisbrook Resort wrapped up yesterday with a first time Tour winner, Gary Woodland. Not a bad accomplishment for a golfer who didn't seriously compete in golf until only eight years ago.
The Sunday final ended up being a two man race between Woodland and Webb Simpson, as the rest of the field faded.
Woodland's final nine was a wild roller coaster ride, with only one par coming on the final hole. The rest of the nine included five birdies and three bogeys.
Putting
Putting was the final difference maker for Woodland, who took only 23 putts in the final round. He didn't miss a putt inside of 20 feet the entire round. Total putts made under 20 feet: 17/17.
Sergio Garcia
The press was buzzing over the return of Sergio Garcia and his new mental attitude. After rounds of 68-66 the first two days and being one shot off the lead, those same press members were busing out the "Sergio is back" commentary. After rounds of one-over par and even on the weekend while the rest of the field was going low, the Sergio is back commentary may have been a bit premature.
Justin Rose
Justin Rose was in the final group Sunday, with the tournament lead. A final round 74 (3 over par) derailed his hopes of taking home the winner's check.
Missed the cut
Notables who didn't make the weekend at the Transitions included John Daly, Padraig Harrington, Vaughn Taylor, Sean O'Hair and Bill Haas.
