Tournament Formats: Texas Scramble
If you are arranging a tournament some time, here's a fun format to try out: the "Texas Scramble." The Texas Scramble is a variation of a regular scramble.
Scramble
Before explaining the Texas version, we should cover a standard scramble. The player tees off with two balls, then picks which one is the best option. On the next shot, the player once again plays two balls and the procedure continues until the hole is completed.
Scrambles result in very low scores, but can take quite a long time to complete because every player is doubling the number of shots played.
Texas Scramble
The "Texas" version of the scramble starts the same way as a standard scramble, with two tee shots. The player then chooses which of the two to play for the 2nd shot. Here's where the format changes.
The subsequent shots after the first are played singularly, like regular golf. So the scramble portion of a Texas scramble only takes place on the first shot of each hole.
The Texas Scramble can be a fun tournament format, and takes a little less time to play than a regular scramble.
