PGA Preview: FedEx Cup Playoffs (Round Three)

FedEx Cup Playoffs Round Three
This week the PGA Tour is in Carmel, Indiana at Crooked Stick Golf Club for the 3rd segment of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the BMW Championship. Purse this week, as it has been for the first three playoff events now, is $8 million with the winner's share coming in at $1.44 million. Once again, 2500 FedEx Cup points go to the winner.
The course this week is Crooked Stick Golf Club. Remember this course? This Pete Dye design was the birthplace of John Daly's amazing career, when he came from an alternate position to win the 1991 PGA Championship. He was bombing his tee shots over all the trouble and tore the course up. At 7,516 yards, with forgiving landing areas, bombers once again should fare well here. And as a fun trivia item, it can be noted that this course was Pete Dye's first ever golf course design, intended to "test a player's poise, courage and intelligence."
The top 70 players in FedEx Cup points, narrowed down from 100 last week, make up the eligible field. This field of 70 will be reduced down to 30 for the final event of the playoffs, the TOUR Championship. ALL 70 of the qualifiers are competing this week including last week's winner Rory McIlory, Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson etc.
Featured pairings this week to watch:
Rory McIlory, Tiger Woods, Nick Watney (top 3 in FedEx Cup points) (#10 tee)
Brandt Snedeker, Dustin Johnson, Louis Oosthuizen
Jason Dufner, Phil Mickelson, Zach Johnson (#10 tee)
