One of the best and most rewarding golf experiences a player can have can be by utilizing the services of a caddie. I strongly recommend trying it if you have not as of yet. Not every golf course offers caddie services. Most that do would be in the higher end of courses like country clubs and high end resorts. Here are a few great reasons to take a caddie.
The Walk
Walking a course free of carrying the golf bag, pushing the golf trolley or riding in a motorized golf cart is fantastic. The walk is very enjoyable and not as physically taxing as it would be if carrying.
Course Knowledge
Often times the best place to aim on a golf hole is not at the pin or green. Sometimes course designs promote shots which bounce in a landing area near the green and funnel the shot onto the surface.
Caddies know their home courses. They know the best places to aim off the tee. They know the breaks in the greens. They know the best ways to manage holes. They know the places to avoid. Some estimates, though not scientifically proven, theorize that a caddie can help a player shave off as many as eight strokes per round.
Clean Gear
Caddies keep your balls and clubs clean while you are walking to the hole or reading your putt. Concentrate more on your game while the caddie takes care of your equipment.
Meeting Someone New
Caddies almost always have interesting stories and getting to know them can be fascinating. Some caddies are young golfers earning their way though school or working a summer job. Some are aspiring tour players working their way to the big leagues. Some caddies are "lifers," caddies who are in it as a career.
Their stories and personalities are most often very interesting.
Try It
Next time you are at a course which offers caddie services, use them. You'll be glad you did.
One other thing: If the caddie does a good job, be sure to reward him/her with a big tip.
