Par or Out is a fun side game for a group of players playing together, though the game could be played “on the scorecard” between players not playing together.
Par or Out is similar to the Derby format. As the name implies, the game is one where players who score par or better on a hole remain in the competition, and players who make worse than par are out of the game.
Par or Out can be played straight up or gross amongst low handicap players. It may also be played “net” via handicap strokes between players.
A prize pot or fund can be established at the beginning of the round. The last golfer remaining is the winner of the pot.
A play as you go version could allow for multiple games and multiple winners. For instance, the game may last five holes, with the winner claiming the first win on the 5th. On the 6th hole, a new game begins.
Try par or out the next time you play with your group!
