Being that Sunday there was a fairly big football game going on called the Super Bowl, one wonders if anyone watched the final rounds of any of the golf tournaments.

Is there an echo in here? Seems like this time last year we were discussing Stephen Gallacher’s win at the Dubai Desert Classic. That’s because we were.
Coming into the final round Stephen Gallacher was poised to defend his title, with a two-shot lead. Gallacher decided to make things interesting by giving up two shots to his playing partner Rory McIlory in the first two holes, then giving up two more on holes six and eight.
Gallacher would get it together on the back nine, carding four birdies to claim a one shot margin of victory over Emilano Grillo. McIlory struggled to a final round 74 and dropped from 1st to a tie for 9th place.

Possibly the funnest and certainly the wildest PGA Tour tournament of the year is the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Year after year this event draws world record crowds of over a half million. They did it again this year though the field was missing Tiger Woods and many other top 10 players.
Bubba Watson looked to be on his way to claiming his first victory since the 2012 Masters, but only managed to card a final round 71. With some very low scores to be had, Watson was lapped by Graham DeLaet and eventual winner Kevin Stadler.
Stadler shot four rounds in the 60’s (65 68 67 68) to claim a one shot win, his first on the PGA Tour. The win puts him and his father Craig into a unique crowd of father/son combinations with a PGA Tour victory. The win also punches a ticket to the 2014 Masters.
