The new PGA Tour season is underway. Yes, you read that correctly. This week marks the beginning of the new format for the Tour with the fall series being part of the next season. So we now must refer to the season as the “2013-2014” season, rather than 2014 season. This is part of many changes the Tour has made, like eliminating Q-School.
The Frys.com Open is now the first event of the season, with player money counting toward the money list and 2013-2014 FedEx Cup points awarded.
Jimmy Walker has been on the PGA Tour for eight years and 188 tournaments. It took that long for Walker to find a way to win. The final round 5-under 66 was enough to overcome Brooks Koepka and qualify walker for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions as well as the 2014 Masters. Walker is now the leader in FedEx Cup points with 500. Think he’ll win the FedEx Cup trophy in 2014? Perhaps just a little too early to tell.
Champions Tour
SAS Championship
Prestonwood Country Club, Gary, North Carolina
Talk about a strong finish. Russ Cochran was about three shots off the lead with four to play. No problem. Cochran turned on the heat a just the right time, making birdie on the final four holes. The four consecutive birdies gave Cochran a one shot margin of victory over David Frost and a three shot margin over Kirk Triplett.
Cochran now has five victories on the senior circuit, with two of them coming at the SAS Championship.

Young Lexi Thompson, 18 years and 8 months old, recorded her 2nd career LPGA Tour victory in Malaysia at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia. Thompson’s final total of 265, 19 under par, gave her a four shot margin of victory over Shanshan Feng.
