PGA Results: 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational (Week 2 of 2)
As of yesterday's weekend wrap, the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill had about 16 holes to go. Sunday's final round had been washed out by some pretty extreme weather which soaked Bay Hill with water and blew dozens colorful Arnold Palmer umbrellas all over the course. As of yesterday, with 16 holes left, Tiger had a 3 shot lead as he continued his final round. Would he hold on or would a surprise performer come from the pack to take him down?
Rickie Fowler was one of the players who had a chance to catch Woods, but that would have to be done by playing a stellar round. Woods almost never gives up 54 hole leads, in fact he was 52 of 56. Tiger wasn't giving up ground so Fowler had to play aggressive. When you play aggressive, execution is even more important. Unfortunately for him, he didn't execute very well on the 16th, where he carded a snowman 8.
Woods held on to win by two shots after making a bogey on the final hole. The best perk to winning this year at Arnold's place is not the fact that Tiger moved back to #1 in the world. Not the fact that he won his 77th Tour start. Not the fact that he moved to #1 in the FedEx Cup race. The best perk? Shaking hands with the King, Arnold Palmer after closing out the victory on the 18th.
With The Win
Tiger is the only player on Tour this year with multiple wins and he actually has THREE.
Tiger has moved to #1 in the world ranking.
Tiger moved to #1 in the FedEx Cup points.
Tiger solidifies his running for player of the year and is the obvious favorite coming into the Masters in two weeks.
Not that there was any question after the win at Torrey Pines earlier in the year but it is safe to say that Tiger is BACK.
