PGA Tour
This past week the PGA Tour was in San Martin, California, wine country, to contest the Frys.com open at Corde Valley Golf Club.
Hockey player turned golfer Jonas Blixt became one of three 2012 rookies to record a win in 2012. Blixt had to fend off surging players Tim Petrovic and Jason Kokrak, taking the lead for good on the 17th hole with a birdie and holding onto it with a final hole par.
"The weird part is I've been working on some stuff with my swing, and I wasn't feeling completely 100 percent about my swing. I just told myself, 'Just give it a good hit every time and see what happens. Just focus. You can't do anything better than your best.' That's what I did on every shot." ~Jonas Blixt
Kokrak moved up from 167th to 117th on the Tour's money list with the 2nd place finish, making his hope of securing a Tour card for 2013 closer to reality. Petrovic fired a 64 and held the lead for a while on Sunday. Petrovic's finish moved him from 200th on the money list to 132nd.
Champions Tour
Clear on the other side of the country, the seniors contested the Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, North Carolina.
Popular player Duffy Waldorf just qualified for the Champions Tour this past August. Waldorf had a great tournament, finishing in 2nd place to Fred Funk. Funk came into the final hole of this 54 hole event tied with Waldorf and secured the win with a shoe-in birdie.
"I really wanted to win here really bad. I've been knocking at the door on this tournament a lot, but I was feeling the heat. When you get in contention, you always want to finish it." ~Fred Funk
LPGA Tour
The LPGA Tour was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to contest the Sime DArby LPGA Malaysia Championship. Host venue: Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
Inbee Park made a final nine charge to overcome Na Yeon Choi by two shots and take the victory in Malaysia. Park's four rounds: 69-68-65-67, very solid. Park's final total of -15 tied the tournament record. This victory marks Park's third career win, and second in the past six starts. With the win Park moved up to #5 in the Rolex Rankings.
“I’m very happy to win. I played for the second time here, and it’s the first time I’ve won twice in one year so I'm really proud of myself for that." ~Inbee Park
