PGA Results: 2012 Humana Challenge
PGA Tour
Quite a fun 3rd weekend on the PGA Tour. This past week the Tour was in Palm Springs for the Humana Challenge (formerly the Bob Hope), playing three different courses in a low scoring shootout. The format for the first leg of the tourney was a Pro-Am, with Bill Clinton as the host. Clinton and his partner Greg Norman had some huge galleries.
The tournament's 3rd round was delayed when sudden 50 mile per hour winds blasted through, blowing away away tents, pavilions, scoreboards and people. When the dust settled and the 3rd round could be completed, Mark Wilson entered the final round with a three shot lead.
Johnson Wagner, John Mallinger and Jeff Maggert surged on Sunday with rounds of 65, 66 and 64 respectively. Big hitter Robert Garrigus was in the mix, and had a chance to win at the end despite being six over after the first eight holes on Thursday. Garrigus was on "59 watch" in the 3rd round, but ended up shooting a 61.
In the end, Mark Wilson would hold on to win by two shots with a final round 69. There's something about Mark Wilson and the early half of the season.
Champions Tour
In Kaupulehu-Kona Hawaii, amongst the lava rock lined golf holes of Hualalai Resort, Dan Forsman notched his 3rd Champions Tour victory with a closing 69.
Forsman beat 2nd place finisher and suddenly surging player Jay Don Blake by two and John Cook by three.
European Tour
23 year South African Branden Grace beat his childhood heroes, Ernie Els and Retief Goosen at the Volvo Golf Champions in George, South Africa.
In a dream finish, Grace faced Goosen and Els in a playoff. On the first playoff hole, the par-5 18th, Grace would make birdie while Els and Goosen made par. This victory marks the 2nd victory in as many starts for Grace.
