PGA Results: 2011 RBC Canadian Open
Greetings on this great Monday morning, 25 July 2011. It has been quite a weekend in the world of golf on many tours, plus the media is still buzzing with the drama between Tiger Woods and his now former caddie Steve Williams.
PGA Tour
This past weekend on the PGA Tour found some very tough play on a tight course at the RBC Canadian Open. The rough was so deep that it sparked an argument among golf media regarding what has to be done in the modern era to counteract the huge increases in distance due to technological advances in equipment. It was a general consensus that perhaps these U.S. Open type conditions this year's RBC, where players literally had to chip out sideways when missing a fairway by a foot or two, were too penal. Winning score, -4. In fact, big crowd draw Mike Weir withdrew after trying to hit out of that rough twice. He didn't want to worsen injuries to an already bad wrist.
Sean O'Hair said he was intimidated by the tough conditions, even in the tournament's pro-am. Having not done better than a tie for 15th all year, perhaps O'Hair's low expectations helped him stay relaxed enough to win, following a one hole playoff with Kris Banks. Bogey was a good enough score for O'Hair to win the playoff and record his 4th win on Tour. As mentioned, tough conditions.
The low Canadian this week did give his home country something to cheer about and had a chance to win. Adam Hadwin finished two shots off the lead and recorded a solid T4 finish.
Senior British Open / Champions Tour
We don't mention the Champions Tour much, but this week was a major championship for the 50+ tour. This week's play was at Walton Heath Golf Club in Walton-on-the-Hill, England.
American Russ Cochran held of charging Mark Calcavecchia and Tom Watson to win by two shots for his best ever finish on on the Senior European Tour. This win marks the 4th win of Cochran's Champions Tour career.
LPGA Tour
As we announced last week in our Woods/Williams caddie comments, the LPGA's Evian Masters in Evian-les-Baines, France will transform into their 5th major championship.
Ai Miyazato captured a two shot victory of the Evian Masters over Stacey Lewis. This victory marks her 2nd victory at this event in as many years.
When asked what she planned to do with the 1st place prize money, Miyazato mentioned that some or all of the money will be donated to the Japan earthquake relief effort:
