As we covered in
last week's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic preview, the golf this weekend was intense and a duel between Webb Simpson and Luke Donald commenced. The performance we'd see Sunday would be a fantastic end to one of the most interesting PGA Tour seasons in years.
Luke Donald
Feeling a win would be the only way to take the PGA Tour's money title to go with already winning the European Tour's money title, world #1 golfer Luke Donald trailed Webb Simpson by two shots with nine holes to play on Sunday at the Disney Magnolia course. The back nine Donald would play was perhaps the best of his career considering what was at stake. Starting on the 10th hole Donald caught fire, rattling off SIX consecutive birdies, including a 45 footer on the par-3 15th hole. The back nine 30, combined with a front nine 34 gave Donald a two shot win with a final round 64.
"It's hard to put into words. You know, obviously I came here and I told you guys on Wednesday that the goal was to win. You know, nothing was really going to be good enough other than that.
You know, I think this is probably one of the most satisfying wins of my career just because of that. It was kind of do or die. Obviously it wasn't looking great after the 8th hole, but I knew I was going to get on to a run.
I didn't play my best golf throughout the week. I knew that something good was want to happen. Just kept plugging away. Obviously to birdie the first six holes on the back nine was the difference this week."~Luke Donald

With the win, his 2nd of the season, Donald shored up the PGA Tour's money title. Hard not to argue that he is #1 in the world, since he has astonishingly won the money title on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour.
Based on points, Donald should win the PGA of America's player of the year, not to be confused with the PGA Tour's player of the year with will be voted on this week.
European Tour
Meanwhile in Spain, Sergio Garcia lapped the field at the Castello Masters for his first win of any kind in nearly three years. Garcia was on fire at the course he grew up playing, Club de Campo del Mediterráneo, shooting an amazing -27 (67, 63, 64, 63). Garcia dedicated the win to the late Seve Ballesteros.
"That was for Seve (Ballesteros).
At the beginning of the week there's always a little extra pressure because you want to do well in front of your home fans and on your home course. But I felt really good and it showed."
With the win, Garcia has moved up to top 35 after dropping outside the top 75 in the world.
