Golf Games: Stableford
One of my all time favorite golf scoring formats/games is the Stableford format. If golf were scored like this every day, more people would play the game and rounds of golf would be much faster.
Stableford Scoring
In a basic Stableford format, points are awarded for good scores, not awarded for bad scores. Points can be based on gross or net scores as follows:
As you can see, there are no points for double bogeys, triple bogeys or worse. So there's no need to finish the hole if you know you are scoring a double bogey or worse. Pick up and move on! Nice to not have to write a quadruple bogey on the scorecard!
There are many variations of the stableford format and for fun, you could even use your own points denominations.
