Welcome to the Frys.com tournament this week on the PGA Tour. It has only been 18 days since the 2013 PGA Tour season ended and the 2014 season begins. No, you don’t need to check to see if your glasses are on. The PGA Tour season REALLY does start this week at the Frys. Factoring in the Presidents Cup, we’ve had a break of less than a week.
This new schedule is part of the new PGA Tour calendar in which the the old PGA Tour qualifying tournament is gone and the path to the Tour is through the Web.com Tour. Though we won’t see much of the bigs like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson or Rory McIlory playing in these events, they do count toward 2014 money standings and more importantly FedEx Cup points. The fall series is a perfect chance for PGA Tour rookies and players who hover around the bottom of the top 125 to firmly establish their playing privileges for the next season.
