PGA Preview: 2012 TOUR Championship

PGA Tour I can't believe we are finally to the TOUR Championship, the conclusion of the FedEx Cup for 2012.  Where has the year gone?  It has certainly been a good one, with great drama and interesting story lines in professional golf. This week's FedEx Cup finale takes place at Bobby Jones's home course, East Lake in Atlanta, GA.  Purse this week is $8 million, with the winner taking home $1.44 million, and likely the $10 FedEx Cup prize.  Though it is possible that the winner may not win the FedEx Cup because of all the varying scenarios. East Lake is a par-70 track which will be playing at 7,154 yards, though it plays as a par-72 for the members.   Originally designed by Donald Ross in 1904, the course was restored by Rees Jones in 1994.  The course is a traditional, tree lined style. The field this week is the remaining top 30, whittled down from the BMW Championship's 70.  Vegas has Rory McIlory as the favorite, naturally.  He's the hottest player on the planet right now, with wins in 3 of his last 4 starts.  Rory leads the FedEx Cup points race and will will win the cup with a victory and has a great chance of winning with just a top five finish.  Tiger Woods is the next favorite.  For all of the scenarios, refer to the PGA Tour's scenarios page. The host course is RTJ Golf Trail, Capitol Hill, the Senator.  Course par is 72 and the yardage for the ladies is 6,607.
