Golf Tips: Shadow Drill for Position
This week’s Tuesday Tip comes from the head pro Tom Velarde of Black Mesa Golf Club in New Mexico. Black Mesa is one of the Frogger Killer Courses.
Mr. Velarde shows us the “shadow drill.” No, it isn’t kickboxing against your own shadow…
The shadow drill is very cool and brings all sorts of other golf drill ideas into the cranium of this frog. On a sunny day the golfer sets up so that his/her back is to the sun and so that his/her shadow casts in front. Golf balls are then placed at crucial points on the body or swing plane so that the golfer can see what his/her body is doing during the swing.

By using the shadow and golf balls as a marker for body positions, one can track head position, hip position, shoulder position, lateral movement, club position and countless other points on the body or in the swing plane.
The shadow drill is such a simple but effective way of checking positions in the golf swing! Try it out.
