Golf Tips: Increasing Speed of Play

We might enjoy golf more if it didn’t take so darn long! Most people would agree that it is more enjoyable to hit shots when ready, rather than waiting and waiting on every shot. Below are five quick tips for playing golf more quickly, and helping ourselves and those around us enjoy the game more.
- Have your yardage figured out and your club selected so you can hit as soon as it is your turn. Don’t wait until all the other golfers in your group have played to start walking off yardages and contemplating the club selection.
- Shorten up your pre-shot routine and hit the shot within 30-45 seconds when it is your turn to play.
- Take clubs with you when searching for a ball. By taking clubs with you you’ll save the time which would have been wasted going back to your golf bag or golf cart for clubs.
- Play “ready golf.” Forget who has the “honor” and all that. Hit your shot when ready.
- Talk en route to the next shot, not after you get to it. Many golfers waste time by carrying on their conversations in their pre-shot routines. Hold the conversations for the time you’re walking (or riding) to your ball.
Do some math. Think about how much time you and your group would save if all four of your foursome did these five small items! Now multiply that by the number of foursomes on the course. Suddenly those 5-6 hour rounds become four hour rounds.
