Golf Tips: Ball Half Submerged In Water

Wow what a shot Bill Haas hit Sunday on the 2nd playoff hole of the final FedEx Cup round.  That blast out of the water on the greenside of #17 helped him win the $10,000,000 FedEx Cup prize and the extra $1,400,000 for winning the Tour Championship.  So how is that shot played? Ball Half Submerged In Water Quite simply, this shot is played just like a bunker shot.  Take a normal to wide stance and open it up so that your feet are left of the target.   As Haas did, open the blade up so that it is perpendicular to, or aiming right at the intended landing area.  Aim 1-2 inches behind the ball with the swing path parallel to your feet.  Then take a fairly full swing at it, blasting the ball out of the water. One word of advice on this shot: Put your rain gear on before you try it! Final Thoughts The main point of this shot is obviously to simply get the ball out of the hazard and into play, saving a one stroke penalty.  An average amateur golfer may not be able to get the spin Haas had on his shot, which helped it bite and end up about 1.5 feet from the hole!
