Here's a fun game you can try this weekend.
Pick Up Sticks, also known as
Bag Raid, is a game between to competitors. The format is match play, but could be modified to work as a stroke play game as well. Each time a player wins a hole, his or her opponent removes one club from his/her bag.
Example
Player A wins the par-5 first hole with a birdie. Player B then removes Player A's driver from his bag. Player B is at an advantage already, as the 2nd hole is a long par-4 which would require driver off the tee. Player B wins hole two with a par because Player A couldn't reach the green, having had to tee off with a fairway wood. At the end of the hole, Player B gets to pull a club out of A's bag and chooses driver as well.
Putter
Two variations of this game involve the putter. It can be determined at the beginning of the round that the putter is off limits. If not, then be sure that the putter will be one of the first clubs in the bag to be taken away.
Good Drills
This game can have a benefit to one's game in the long run. Not having certain clubs one would normally use for specific shots forces that player to be creative and try other shots. For instance, if the player's wedges are all gone, he/she may need to use an 8-iron to chip with. Perhaps a player may have a 150 yard shot, normally a 7 or 8-iron, but have to hit a 6-iron "easy" as those clubs are no longer in the bag.
