Tournament Format: Various Pars

Various Pars is a fun competition format.  If you participate in a league this one is a fun format to try in one of your tournaments or weekly competition.  Lets check it out. Format In Various Pars the players play for 18 holes.  Only nine of the holes are counted toward the player's final score.  The player does not know which of the nine will be counted and which will be thrown out.  Tournament organizers or the committee picks the nines after the players have teed off. Because of the way normal golf courses are setup, the most popular way of breaking down the holes is to choose the two par-3 holes and par-5 holes, as there are typically four of each.  Then choose five of the par-4 holes, as there are typically 10.  Of course, different courses have different hole configurations so simply use the above as a guide.  Other options by the committee could be to leave out all the par-3's or par-5's etc. This format may be confused with the "Blind Nine" format which is similar, but slightly different.  We will cover that one soon.
