WGC Cadillac Championship
Doral Blue Monster Course - Miami, Florida
Guess which player is now the only one on the PGA Tour season with TWO wins? Guess which player built up such leads in his two wins that all it took was mediocre finishing rounds to cap off the victories? Guess who just recorded his 76th win on the PGA Tour?
At the famed TPC Blue Monster Course at Doral, Tiger Woods dominated from the first tee shot. In the first two days of this no-cut tournament, Tiger broke his own record for the number of birdies made through two rounds. Thursday's 66 was followed up with a 65 on Friday and before long he had built up a 4 stroke lead over a star-studded leader board which included Phil Mickelson, Graeme McDowell and Steve Stricker.
Coming into Sunday with a large lead, it was all but said and done, though Stricker and even Phil Mickelson took shots at Woods. In the end, Tiger won by two despite making two bogeys in the last three holes.
Tiger is back.
PGA Tour
Puerto Rico Open - Trump National Golf Club, Peurto Rico
This week was great because the WGC is not a PGA Tour event. The PGA Tour was actually in Puerto Rico, though all the big stars were at Doral. Weeks like this give some of the up-and-coming players a chance to improve their position on tour. A look at the top three on the leader board shows features three players who did exactly that.
Scott Brown's week with the win was huge for his golf career. With the win Brown picks up 300 FedEx Cup point. More importantly he picks up some big money and a two year exemption on the PGA Tour.
Jordan Spieth was in high school last year. The 19 year old who just recently turned pro recorded a T2 finish this week in Puerto Rico, tied with Fabian Gomez. Watch for Spieth. A very bright future lies ahead for this player.
Other Tours
The LPGA and Champions Tours were off this past week.
