British Open
Muirfiled, Scotland
There are many fantastic and interesting story lines from this year's British Open. Nobody it seems, including Phil Mickelson, thought he could win a British Open. The win at the Scottish Open last week showed that Phil could win at links style golf, but I think most people didn't expect the momentum to continue in a tournament he has typically not played well in.
Phil's final round Sunday will certainly go down as one of the best rounds in major championship history. Look at the scores some of the big names in the field dropped compared to Mickelson's 66: Tiger Woods 74, Lee Westwood (leader coming into the final round by three shots) 75, Hunter Mahan 75...
Before the tournament many commented that Muirfield brings out the cream of the crop, producing previous winners like Walter Hagan, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo etc. Most of those winners, barring Gary Player, had won a major previously. Add Phil to the list.
Congratulations to Lefty. Five major championships in the bag. The only one left for the career grand slam is the U.S. Open. Looking forward to 2014.
