PGA Preview: 2013 Sony Open
Normally on Mondays during the PGA Tour season, we do our "Monday Wrap" post. Monday Wrap covers the scores and happenings on most of the major tours. Today's wrap will be part one of two or perhaps even three. Part two will be tomorrow or Wednesday. Why? Check it out.
Major Winds
The PGA Tour season is yet to officially start. You heard that correctly. Friday's first round at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua Golf Course in Maui, Hawaii, was cancelled due to high winds. Very high winds. They tried to start the first round Saturday, then Sunday. The conditions were warm but with winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour. With "tour" speeds on the greens, players were watching their golf balls which were once sitting on the putting surface, be blown off the green. Many players, like Ben Curtis, were four-putting. Curtis four-putted two holes in a row. PGA Tour pros just don't do that.
Rounds 1 and 2 Today
So the PGA Tour wiped all scores off the board and decided to start round one today, followed right back up with round two. 36 holes today, then 18 holes tomorrow (Tuesday) is the plan; a 54 hole event. They can't really go much beyond those dates as the Sony Open starts Thursday.
Live TV coverage from Maui will be from 4-11 p.m. Eastern time on Golf Channel, weather permitting.
