PGA Preview: 2012 U.S. Amateur
U.S. Amateur
The 113th United States Amateur is this week in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. The host venue is Cherry Hills Club. This is the leading amateur championship in the USA. At stake for the winner are exemptions to the U.S. Open, The Masters and the British Open, as well as being in a group of winners that includes the likes of Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer.

PGA Tour
With the four major championships completed, now is the time of the PGA Tour season where players jockey for position in the FedEx Cup playoffs. That's just what is happening this week. Many players in the field this week at the Wyndham Championship are playing to gain a spot in the playoffs, while a few others are simply looking to improve their positions.
The Wyndham Championship is held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. The purse this week is $6.2 million with the winner collecting $936K and 500 FedEx Cup points.
Sedgefield Country Club is a tree lined par-70 course which measures out at 7,130 yards for this event. The course has only two par-5 holes. The final hole is a very tough par-4 measuring at 507 yards. If the tournament is tight down the stretch, 18 should provide some good drama.
Players in the field to keep an eye on this week include Jason Dufner, Camilo Villegas, Bill Haas, John Daly, Sergio Garcia, Davis Love III, Charl Schwartzel and David Toms. Watch big hitter Gary Woodland as well.
Champions Tour
The seniors are in Endicott, New York this week for the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. Purse this week is $1.6 million with the winner's share coming in at $270K.
The host course for this tournament is En-Joie GC. En-Joie is a par-72 which is measuring at 6,974 yards. The course is a tree lined track with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards.
Notables to watch in the field this week: Fred Funk, Peter Jacobsen, Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer, Tom Lehman, Fuzzy Zoeller, Corey Pavin, Tom Watson.
LPGA Tour
The ladies are contesting the Safeway Classic in North Plains, Oregon this week. Purse is $1.5 million. Suzann Pettersen is the defending champion.
The host course is Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, Ghost Creek Golf Course. The track is a par-72 at 6,611 yards. This course combines tree lined traditional design with links style fescues.
