Golf Tournaments: Stringball Format
As we cover more and more of the fun golf games and formats, it becomes more difficult to come up with or find formats we haven't mentioned. So when we do, they'll be getting more and more obscure.
Stringball
Stringball is an interesting game, suitable for charity tournaments or corporate events. In this format each player is allowed one foot of string for for the number of handicap strokes they posses. So an 18 handicap would be given 18 feet of string.
The string may be used to move the ball into the hole, away from hazards, into better lies etc. Each time the string is used, the amount needed is cut off the string with a pair of scissors.
So lets say that an 18 handicap finds a bunker on his tee shot. The ball is seven feet feet from a lie outside the bunker. The player may move the ball the seven feet, then will cut that amount off that amount of string. He will then have 11 feet of string left. This process is used, even to hole out putts, until the string runs out.
An option for the game is to award extra string for birdies or eagles.
