Are you one of those golfers who hurries to the first tee without eating breakfast, or perhaps you grab a donut and hit your first tee shot with the donut in your mouth? Then you grab a chili dog at the turn for lunch? Gary Player, Mr. Fitness, wouldn’t be happy with you.
Have you noticed when watching PGA Tour pros that most of them seem to be constantly nibbling on energy bars? No donuts? No chili dogs?
Eating a big and high calorie meal takes away energy from your body and focuses it on processing the food in your stomach. That’s why you get tired. Playing good golf while in a food coma is not easy. Athletes will feed their bodies a constant stream of healthy caloric intake in smaller doses to keep their energy levels high and prevent that food coma like reaction.
Keeping a steady and small stream of healthy calories helps keep you energized physically and also helps keep you mentally focused because your digestive system isn’t stealing all the blood flow and oxygen from your brain.
Next round, skip the donuts and chili dogs and opt for some energy bars. I keep 5-10 bars in my bag at all times. There are many bars to choose from, some even designed specifically for golf. Try them out.
