Want to really spice up your weekend skins game? Here's the ticket: "stealies" or often called "steals."
Steals is a variation to the skins game. So first we must review what a skins game is.
In a skins game the group of players, can be any group of two or more players, decides on a bet amount. The players will throw their bet into a main pot, which is divided evenly by the number of skins won. Otherwise the bet amount will be "per skin," meaning each time someone wins a skin the other players pay them the betting increment.
To win a skin a player must make the lowest score on a hole without being tied. For instance in a group of four, player A makes birdie on the first hole while the other three make pars or worse. Player A wins a skin.
Steals
In steals the game is played the same as above but with one addition. The hole following a skin hole is a "steal" hole. If a player makes a skin on the steal hole, he will capture the skin won on the previous hole. Here's an example:
Player A won the skin on the first hole as described above. On the second hole though, Player B made birdie and the rest of the players made par. Player B wins the skin for hole #2, and since it was a steal hole, Player B steals the skin Player A won on the first hole. This gets crazy, because then a skin on the 3rd hole means the player could steal the skins for holes one and two!
Crazy Variation
Want to get REAL crazy? Play carry-over skins. In carry-over skins, all tied holes are added together. So if the first four holes are tied, the fifth hole is worth five skins. Then think about steals. A player could make a skin and win say, eight skins, then have that stolen on the next hole!
