A recent discussion on Twitter about the coolest courses in your home town by some golf fans led me to posting Killer Course #8. Fans from Indianapolis unanimously touted their favorite cool course as Brickyard Crossing. What makes Brickyard Crossing so cool? Check it out.
About Brickyard Crossing
Brickyard Crossing isn't just another course in Indianapolis. This par-72, 18 hole course lies next to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Four of the holes on the course are actually inside the racing oval!

Playing golf inside the oval, which seats over 250,000 is quite a memorable experience.
The location, next to and inside the Indy Motor Speedway isn't the course's only claim to fame. The course has a long history, dating back to its opening in 1929. Many famous players like Gary Player, Kathy Whitworth and Billy Casper have won tournaments on the grounds.
The course has won numerous awards, including
Top 100 Public Access Courses by Golf Magazine as well as Travel + Leisure Golf Magazine's
America's 100 Best Courses.
Design
The original 1929 design was upgraded by the famous golf course designer Pete Dye in 1993. Many of Dye's signature railroad ties accent the course features along with 77 sand traps.

For skilled golfers, the course measures out at just under 7,000 yards from the back tees, with a slope of 143 and a tough rating of 74. Three other sets of tees accommodate players of every other skill level.

Blackouts
Before you plan your trip to Brickyard Crossing, make sure you're not scheduling it during one of these three races: Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400, Red Bull Indianapolis GP. The course is closed during these races, obviously to avoid the possibility of an errant tee ball causing a massive pileup on the raceway!
